Goya
Fairy owned kiosk
Design brief for a food kiosk
Recently acquired knowledge of the Netherland’s based theme park:
De Efteling
A food kiosk run by fairies! (based in De Efteling park)
Learning about
Faeries
Fairy Ring
Naturally occurring circles or arcs of mushroom; also known as fairy circle, elf circle, elf ring, or pixie ring. They are often subject to folklore, sometimes linked with devils and other times with good fortune
Currency - Fae
Faeries have no need for human currency. They often trade in barter. Their form of barter can include secrets, memories, and other such intangibles
Fairtytale Forest
According to De Efteling’s website, this area of the park is the largest living picture book. An area to explore all fairytales based in forests
and
De Efteling
park

The little Clarion
This is the avg food kiosk in the De Efteling. Has only outdoor seating. Small, cozy, only a few food selections

A cute gnome house reminiscent of playground architecture
Can walkthrough - there is an exhibition inside
Mushroom motifs

Why would faeries have a human business?
What would make a food kiosk most fairy like? How would faeries run a human business?

They like humans!
The faeries want to know more about humans and the best way to do so is by living int their world. At least part time
Locating
and placing the food kiosk in De Efteling Park

Is where the attractions are
Other food places
Potential Locations for Goya

How to get there
Glowing mushroom signs

2.a. Gumball machines, shaped like mushrooms. For a surprise use later!

2.b. Mushroom shaped bins - continuing the theme
ADA complaint mushrooms on the base of the trees, motion activated speaker
Fiber optic lights to subtly lead the patrons

Almost there
When the patrons enter they see small mushrooms on which multiple scrolls of menu are sitting
There are giant mushroom ordering stations of two styles:
A window where a staff member is sitting and accepting orders and payment
There’s a digital screen and a staff memeber present to address any issues that come up

Menu
The prices in the menu will have a Fairy twist. The tab will show the human price on top, but when opened it will show the Fairy price for the item! For Example, The Chamomile Tea is for $3.00, a secret, and two items from one’s pocket.
Sometimes the fairy prices will be orally communicated

Currently
as I rework it I am trying to figure out what the kiosk itself could look like:
The elements I want to include in the house are:
One floor
Giant windows
Wonkified
Spacious
Run over by plants
Hidden kitchen with a magical way to receive food

A magic wall filled with drawers with numbers and speaker system. The kitchen is behind the wall and the drawers open into the kitchen too. There will be a system for the kitchen to notify which order is in which drawer.
The wall will have moving mechanical faeries that make the drawers light up when food arrives in them.
There will be a rotating staff on stilts to reach the higher up drawers for the food. There will also be other staff to man the wall and distribute the food as it arrives. Maybe everyone has to come to this wall to pick up their food
Initially
I thought it would look like:

Guest Flow
Staff Flow
and the
Elevations
would be like this:

The staff will be dressed in renaissance/poet tops and interact with adults and children alike to delight and baffle. iPad registers wil be used to take orders and for check out. The countertop will be interactive
Interiors reminiscent of the forest

Softwares Used
Photoshop - painting & sketching
Rhino - floor plan
Midjourney to create that 1 drawers painting
Depending on the layout and structure of your coffee shop, the total square footage needed [for back of the house] can range from 600-4600 square feet. Small shops that sell just coffee can be anywhere from 600-800 square feet, basic coffee shops can be anywhere from 1500-2000 square feet, and large, full-service coffee shops can be anywhere from 3500-4600 square feet.

After visiting the park I decided that the best course of action would be to focus on a small range for the menu.
That means a smaller kitchen area for sandwiches, beverages, and desserts menu. It could be a cloud kitchen where one requires a coffee machine, microwave, desert display stand, sink, some cabinets, POS, etc.

Other Updates
I have been working on drawing inspiration from Antoni Gaudi. His work is very organic and vibrant and the wonky fairy houses by Art reminded me of Gaudi’s work.
Having recently learned Blender I plan to build this structure in Blender and Rhino to get the best of both world and an accurate design structure.
On the left are the technical aspects of a kiosk design that are still to be consider before and for the 3D design.
